I've been going to the gym since I was 14 years old. That's 18 years, yikes!
It's now been 35 days of consecutive home-workouts, something I have never EVER done before, and honestly, I am pleasantly surprised.
Not only because I do find the motivation to workout from home (something I have always found extremely hard), but also because I have been challenging my body to do different types of workouts and movements every day, which I definitely feel as I am pretty much sore every single day!
SO HOW DO I GET MOTIVATED TO WORKOUT FROM HOME?
1. Bought a static bike: that helps me warm up and sets my workout mood at the beginning of each session (Or to do some cardio sessions). I love intervals especially. It cost pretty close to my monthly gym membership (that is now paused) so it was a good investment :)
2. I bought extra home-gym equipment, very basic but helpful: 15lbs dumbbells, ankle weights and a kettle bell. I already had booty bands, resistance bands, a yoga mat and a big exercise ball.
3. I stick to a workout time: When I put Sofia down for a nap at 1pm, I immediate go do my session, and have lunch right after, before she wakes at 3pm. It is a great mid-day break. If I can’t get to it midday for some reason, I workout at 6pm with monkey Sofia around.
WHAT WORKOUTS AM I DOING?
At the gym, I used to focus a LOT on weight lifting, and a pilates session once a week. This situation has forced me to add more variety, which I think is challenging me every day.
Weights & toning
Bike intervals
HITT
Barre
Pilates
Yoga
On average, I do:
15m of cardio or HITT to warm up
20-30min of full body or targeted
10-20min of yoga / stretch to end
I also love doing daily pelvic floor focused exercises to prep for labor & recovery like I did w Sofia, which worked great!
