Grand Velas Cabo Family Trip Recap

Updated: May 30, 2023

We’ve been to Grand Velas Rivera Nayarit 3 times and had its Cabo location on our bucket list for a long time. So we were thrilled to finally make it happen!

This resort makes it SO easy for parents to ENJOY and RELAX in a vacation with littles.

Grand Velas Cabo is located in San Jose del Cabo, on the pristine shores of the Sea of Cortez in Mexico, a VERY family friendly relaxing destination, unlike the city Cabo de San Lucas. It’s just a 30min car ride from the airport and the resort can coordinate the private car service pickup with car seats included upon request.

This luxury all-inclusive resort is beachfront, offering breathtaking views of the ocean, we stayed at the Ambassador Two Bedroom Family Suite Oceanfront (so we had a king bedroom for mom and dad, and two queen bedroom for the kids, with two bathrooms and two private balconies overlooking the ocean). But their rooms are SO spacious, a family of 4 or 5 can totally stay in one room, with two queen beds and a crib, it would be enough space too.

One of the immediate things I loved when we got there is how new & updated this resort is, it opened in 2016 and it’s design is exquisite.

Here are all the reasons why I adore this place with kids:

1. “Baby Concierge” service included which provides you with the baby gear you need: sanitized bath tub, hammocks, toys, strollers, pacifiers, high chair in your room, carriers... so you can travel more freely and not sacrifice on comfort. They even wash your baby bottles if needed.

2. On-site kids club open 9a-11pm complimentary for 4+ full of daily activities, and in house babysitting option for $27/h. And a teens club for 10y+ with video games, pool tables, music and much more where they supervise them until 11pm too. You can book the nanny through your private concierge, which you'll get access via Whatsapp app for any requests.

This was the FIRST time we utilized both the kids club and the nanny one night, so we could have dinner on our own. The first night, on night 1 we took him to dinner with us, and on night 2 we asked him if he wanted to go to the kids club with sofia, or dinner with us. He said kids club! So we hired a resort nanny (they are in house) and told her to watch him inside the kids club, so he was with sofia and he thought he was part of the club too.

They had a blast dancing, singing, playing games, and we got 3h (5:30p-8:30p of relaxing sunset + dinner time). It was great for everyone!

PS the in house nanny service at Grand Velas watches them wherever you want in the resort except the beach: so the room, pool, kids club, restaurants, etc.

3. Kid friendly fine dining restaurants with high chairs, baby puree (yes, they’ll make baby puree of fruit, veggies, meat, fish, chicken… upon request) and kid menus everywhere.

4. A playground on site.

5. A splash pool & kid pool, and two huge family pools too!

And other reasons why I adore this place:

  • Stunning beachfront location. The water is as clean as can be and the beach is so secluded and private feeling, no one from outside the resort comes in so it’s always so quiet. It’s not a swimmable beach for kids due to the waves (none really are in Cabo even if they are, waves and currants are too much for little ones) but adults can swim!

  • Their 5-star all-inclusive dinning all around: room service, poolside, and all of their restaurants are gourmet dining and truly can’t be topped. The quality, the variety, and unlimited with the peace of mind of not spending a dime more. Yes, drinks included. They offer 7 Distinct Gourmet Best Restaurants including Cocina de Autor which has two Michelin stars. You have to make dinner reservation so make sure you do so before arrival so you don't miss out. Here are my favorites dinner restaurants, ranked: Velas10 Cocina de Autor Lucca Frida Pilaf For breakfast you'll go to Azul, which offers an incredible buffet, this restaurant is also open for lunch 12pm to 5pm (for those who want a sit down alternative to poolside). No reservation needed. And then you also have Cabrilla, poolside, and the daybed service where you can eat while enjoying the pool! No reservation needed here either.

  • Exceptional service: the attention to detail, how they’ll go above and beyond to get you anything you want, it’s truly amazing.

  • World class spa, SE Spa has also been recognized with numerous awards and offers the most relaxing treatments.

  • Infinity pools, the resort has three infinity pools, all with stunning views. I love that the adult only pool is the first one (so if you want to stay away from any families you can) but the other two are also huge so all families are so spread out, and it still gives you such a peaceful vibe, without the worry of interrupting any adult relaxing time too and letting the kids play freely.

  • Beach activities: including snorkeling, paddle boarding, and kayaking.

The weather is perfect year-round. But technically summer is the rainy season, sparse rainfall hits in August and September. Although annual rainfall in Cabo is actually less than seven inches, so it’s not something to really worry about.

I would just recommend avoiding the busy season if you can, which is off-school months from June to August, as well as major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter / Spring Break.

But whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or a fun-filled and relaxing family vacation, Grand Velas Los Cabos is the perfect destination year round!!! We’ll be back.
